2Overview
This module cover the utilization of GE
Centricity (GE CE) which is used to inquire on
all patients (inpatient, outpatient, and
discharged). You will be able to view vital
signs, labs, medications, intake and output, and
other results. Some benefits of this system is
the ability to view patient data and medications
before making rounds, keep updated on vital
results, and monitoring changes in patient
condition.

- Only share patient information with those
involved with the patients current care

- Allow anyone to use your ID and password to log
in - Leave your computer logged in if you need to
leave - Use External email to discuss ANY patient
information or an incident involving a patient.
9How to log on
Any problems logging into GE Centricity, call the
IT Customer Support line at 703-889-2000
Enter your user number and password here. Then
press enter.
GE CE is also known as IDX, PHAMIS, LastWord,
CareCast.
10Command or Home screen
Title Bar and Name Banner Displays patients
medical record number, name and other identifying
information.
Command Field Commands are entered to move to
other screens.

Identify Patient In this area the user is able
to locate a patient by medical record number,
first and last name, or from an inpatient search.
12Toolbar buttons
13Chart Tabs
Chart Tabs are used to group common functions or
commands for easy retrieval. Click on the Blue
Chart tab to see the list of functions. On the
Chart Tab drop down the commands are listed to
the right and are in all CAPS. The commands can
be entered directly into the Command Field if
desired.
14Activate Patient
A patient can be activated by either Medical
Record Number or Last Name. Enter either then
click the OK button on the ToolBar or press the
Enter key. If searching by last name you can
narrow your search by clicking the Inpatient
Search box. This will limit your search to only
inpatients. You will need a second identifier to
choose your patient.
- To clear an active patient from the screen
- RIGHT click in the background area of the IDX
window. - Click on Clear Patient or press Ctrl Shift
Home on the keyboard. - Press enter twice.
15Patient banner
The patient banner resides across the top of the
screen just below the Chart tabs. This area
displays current information for the active
patient such as
Medical Record Number Pt Sex Pt Date of Birth
Age
Account number Room and bed Admission date and
length of stay (LOS)
16Patient List Directory
- Hotlist is good to use for rounding. It is a
manual list each user has to add patients they
need to track. To add an active patient - Activate the patient
- Double-click HOTLIST
- Click on ADD ACTIVE PATIENT on the lower part of
the screen - Census lists are alphabetized by name only.
- Census type lists are maintained by the system.
As patients are discharged they will disappear
from the list. Conversely patients who are
admitted with you listed as attending, admitting,
or consulting will appear on the list. - Personal lists such as your Hotlist are not
maintained by the system. If a patient is
discharged or is not longer your patient, they
will remain on the list until you delete them. - REMEMBER you can only view records for patients
you are currently and directly caring for or have
asked to consult on.
17Hot Button review
On the top right hand side of the screen are a
list of 12 Hot Buttons. They are frequently used
commands available at your fingertips. Remember
you can also access them via the Chart Tabs along
the top part of the screen.
18To change your password
After the first successful login, your temporary
password will expire.
- Click on the Admin/Other Chart Tab
- Click on Change Password or enter PSW in the
Command Field. - Read the privacy and security notice.
- Click OK

- Click I agree.
- Type in your temporary password.
- Type in your new password.
- Your new password again in the next field.
- Click OK or press the enter key
The system requires you to change your password
every 90 days.

The columns, by default, display results in 8
hour buckets of time. If the active patient is
an Inpatient the system defaults to looking at
the last 7 days Outpatients default to 30 days.
To change the number of days, click the X in the
upper right corner of the screen.
- Cells in Yellow indicate there is more than 1
result for that item for the time frame of the
column - Cells in light Blue indicate a low result
- Cells in Pink/Red indicate a high result
- If the cell is in yellow and the font color is
Red or Blue one of the results is high or low - Transcribed results show with an _at_ symbol in the
result field - To view textual results or if there is more than
one result in a column, RIGHT click on the cell
to see all the results.

- To change the Back days
- Enter the desired number of days in the Back Days
field. - Click Display to update the viewer screen.
- The flow sheet will update to show the new
timeframe. - To change what is displayed click the droop
down arrow for the field to the far left.

Viewer can display 4 different graph views of the
data points selected.

To print, click on the Print button.

30Patients Meds - MED
This button will allow you to review all Active
Medications for a patient. In this screen you can
sort any column in ascending or descending
order A Medication report can also be printed and
signed by the physician for renewal of orders.
Simply submit the signed form to the Unit
Secretary on the patients unit. To Print a copy
of the Med List choose a printer and click on
the Print Meds button.
To view meds from a previous Inpatient Account
Click on the Pharmacy Chart tab then click on
Pt Med Profile (Select Account) IPPX.
31Patients Meds - MED
- View Ingred Will list all components to the
medication - View Inactive Will display all discontinued
medications. This is useful to see what meds a
patient was on during the last admission - View Charted Will launch you into the Viewer
module (VMED) displaying all charted medications. - Cumulative Dose Used to view the total dose of
meds given. Can be subtotaled by day.
32Vital Signs Plus - VVSP
This Hot Button will bring you into the Viewer
module again, however the view will be limited to
Vital Signs O2 Sats, and Blood Sugar results.
The same concepts covered under Viewer will
apply here.
33Intake and Output - INO
You can review a patients IO charted results
here. Each column is by default displaying 8
hour buckets of time. The last 3 columns to the
right display daily totals for the last 3 days.
Below each column there are totals. STOOL-CT and
URINE-CT are counts and are not included in the
totals they show the number of times voided or
number of soiled pad/diapers.
An alternative to this view is the View Intake
and Output -VINO command listed under the Results
Chart Tab
34Print FaceSheet - PTFACE
This button will print out a Facesheet.
NOTE Social Security Number will only print on a
Facesheet printed by a physician.
