Title: Astronauts In space
1Astronauts In space
2What is an Astronaut?
3Some Famous Astronauts!
4First living being in space.
Ham the Chimp was the first living being that
travelled into space. He was also called
Astrochimp. On January 31, 1961, Ham was secured
in a Project Mercury capsule. He had been
trained to perform tasks while in the capsule,
and he did everything he was asked to do. His
flight lasted 16 minutes and 39 seconds. The
capsule then splashed down in the Atlantic Ocean.

5Food In Space.
Some foods you can eat in its natural form like
fruit. But others you have to add water
like cheese! In the space craft they have an
oven but not a refrigerator so space food must be
stored and prepared properly. You can also get
ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise , salt and pepper
but in a liquid form otherwise if an astronaut
sprinkled some salt on their food their would be
salt flying around! Astronauts have 3 main
meals a day- Breakfast lunch and dinner and they
can choose what they want to eat like fruits,
nuts, peanut butter, chicken, beef, seafood,
sweets, brownies and for Drinks you could have
coffee, tea, orange juice, fruit punches and
lemonade.
This is what astronauts would of eat from.
6What they wear
Astronauts wear different things for the things
they are doing preparing for launch, working
inside the space shuttle or the space station,
working outside in space, or landing back on
Earth.
The Astronauts choose what they wear months
before they launch.
When they land or Take off they wear the orange
launch and entry suits.
They dont wash clothes very often to save water.
- They each get
- Shorts and T-shirt Changed every 3 days
- Work Shirts Changed every 10 days
- Underwear and socks Changed every other day
- PolartecTM socks (for cold feet!) Changed every
Month! - 2 Jumpers
- Running Shoes - For treadmill and exercise bike!
-
7They do play!
It is not just work in space they do have time to
relax and have fun too. They can play with their
food and tease the crew members occasionally,
just like their normal life in earth. Lots in
their spare time just look out of the window down
on earth. But they can also go on the exercise
bike and treadmill, watch movies, read books and
talk to family and friends.
8Sleeping in space.
Before any astronaut goes to sleep they have to
attach themselves to a wall, seat or bunk bed so
they don't float away and bash into
something! They usually sleep in sleeping bags
but they can sleep in the commanders seat, Pilots
seat or a bunk bed. Sleeping doesn't change in
space . They can wake up to use the toilet. They
can also have nightmares and snore! When it is
time to wake up they play a piece of music
sometimes requested by a member of family!
