The Trail of Tears
  • By Dora Russu

2
Introduction
  • Who the people involved were the Cherokees and
the other four tribes, the U.S. Government and
    the Federal Troops.
  • What The Trail of Tears started because when the
government sent a new treaty to be signed called
the Indian act Removal the Cherokees did not
want to sign it. So that started The Trail of
    Tears.
  • When The Trail of Tears started In 1839-1839.
  • Where The Cherokees started their journey from
Georgia and traveled to Oklahoma then they
    settled there.

3
History
  • On May 23, 1838 Federal troops begin rounding up
    the Cherokees.
  • More then 3000 Cherokees died, 1600 in stockades
About 1600 en route and 800 more died in
    Oklahoma.
  • When the Cherokees landed they cleared land,
built houses, plant crops, and started to
    reestablish themselves.

4
Geography
  • The Cherokees get ready to leave and find Indian
    Territory.
  • 13 groups of Cherokees cross Tennessee Kentucky
and Illinois. One group reaches the Mississippi
    River.
  • Some of the people though, marched through
Tennessee up to Kentucky, through Illinois to
    Missouri.
  • They stopped at Arkansas.

5
Civics
  • When the Government sent a new Treaty to be
signed, 15665 Cherokees didnt want to sign the
Treaty of New Echota. The Cherokee Act of Union
Unites the Eastern and Western Factions of the
Cherokee Nation on July 12, 1839.Then the
Cherokees agreed to meet to begin a new United
    Cherokee Government.

6
Economics
  • On this journey the Cherokees didnt have
anything to eat or dress with so they fur traded.
So if they didnt have any food they would trade
the fur for it. If they didnt have anything to
dress with like in the winter then they would
    trade the food for it.

7
Conclusion
  • We have to be ready for everything because we
dont know when this might happen to us.
