- How does a school get into the School
Improvement Program? - What is AYP?
- What are the requirements of the School
Improvement Program? - What resources does SIRC provide for all
schools?

3Grounding Activity
- Form small groups of 3-5 people.
- Take turns and speak to certain points
- Two rules
- Each person must attend nonverbally to the
speaker until they are finished with the
questions. - The first person to speak will introduce their
group mates and summarize their responses for the
large group. -
-
-
4Grounding Activity Take turns speaking to
these points
- What is one event or accomplishment that has
occurred this year at your campus that you can
celebrate? - SIRC/SIP Veterans - In implementing the
requirements of the School Improvement Program
(SIP) what has worked well for your
campus/produced positive results? - OR
- SIRC/SIP Rookies What strategy/program/practice
have you implemented on your campus that has
produced positive results? -
- SIRC/SIP Veterans - What has been one of the
greatest challenges in implementing the
requirements of the School Improvement Program? - OR
- SIRC/SIP Rookies What do you see as the
biggest challenge facing your campus in regards
to school improvement? - What are your expectations for today?
5Purpose of Grounding
- Establishes a norm for respectful listening
- Brings people to the here and now
- Gets every persons voice in the room
- Allows people to connect
- Allows for the expression of hopes and
apprehensions - Values both affective and analytical thought
6Norms
Norms

others through participating fully. - Create and hold a respectful
- space for people to speak and to
- be heard.
- Be on time.

- What was the 2007-08 AYP performance standard for
Reading? - For Math?
- What is this years (2008-09) AYP performance
standard for Reading? - For Math?
- What is the AYP participation standard for taking
the Reading and Math tests? - What is the AYP standard for Attendance?
- For Graduation?
19AYP The Rising Standards
20AYP How is it measured?
- Districts and campuses must meet AYP standards on
three indicators - Reading
- Includes BOTH
- Performance (60 in 08/67 in 09) AND
- Participation (95)
- Mathematics
- Includes BOTH
- Performance (50 in 08/58 in 09) AND
- Participation (95)
- 3. Other indicator
- - Attendance (90 or any improvement) OR
- - Graduation Rate (70 or any improvement)
21AYP Guide - Page 25
22AYP How does a school get IN (and OUT)school
improvement?
- Two in, two out
- A campus that does not make AYP for the SAME
indicator (reading, mathematics, or
attendance/graduation rate) for TWO CONSECUTIVE
YEARS is identified for school improvement. - A campus identified for school improvement must
meet AYP for TWO CONSECUTIVE YEARS in the SAME
indicator that caused the campus to enter school
improvement in order to exit school improvement
status.

Student Groups
- Campus minimum size is based only on the tested
grades at the campus level. - It is important to note that while students
within a student group may not meet the minimum
size requirement on a campus, these students will
affect the minimum size requirements of the
district.

- Performance Improvement
- 10 decrease in percent not proficient
- AND
- 0.1 or more improvement or standard is met in
the other measure (i.e., Attendance or

The Graduation measure for Eco Dis students rose
from 89.4 for the class of 2005 to 89.8 for
the class of 2006. An improvement of 0.4.
Therefore school DOES meet RI.
Since actual improvement (7) exceeds 10
decrease in failure rate (6), then school is
eligible for RI, IF there is an improvement of
at least 0.1 for Graduation measure for Eco Dis
students.

39What happens if a SIP school meets AYP when the
next years results come out?
- If a campus meets AYP in the same indicator that
caused it to enter a stage of school improvement,
the school moves into the second year of the same
stage of improvement (Stage 1/Year 2, Stage
3/Year 2, etc.) or they exit the program if
theyve met AYP for the 2nd year in the same
indicator. - A 2nd year campus will continue to implement the
requirements of the current stage until the
campus exits school improvement by meeting AYP
for two consecutive years in the same indicator.
40What happens if a SIP school does not meet AYP
when next years results come out?
- If the campus does not meet AYP in the same
indicator for a second time while in a stage of
school improvement, the campus enters into the
next stage of school improvement.

(CIP). The CIP must - incorporate strategies based upon scientifically
based research (SBR) - address the specific academic issues that caused
the campus to not meet AYP - adopt policies and practices concerning the
schools core academic subjects - specify how the campus will provide professional
development - establish specific annual, measurable objectives
for continuous progress - describe how the school will provide written
notice to parents about the identification - specify the responsibilities of the school and
the LEA, including the technical assistance that
the LEA will provide - include strategies to promote effective parental
involvement - incorporate, as appropriate, activities
before/after school, during the summer, and
during any extension of the year - incorporate a teacher mentoring program.

56Principal Testimonials
- I did not know what to expect going into this
process, but I am a firm believer that things
happen for a reason, and its indeed a huge
blessing for me to work with you as I look
forward to continued growth through your
expertise and guidance. - As a campus principal, youre the BOSS, the
person in charge, the one providing the
leadership and guidance, the visionary , the Go
To person for answers. CAMP provides campus
principals the opportunity to have a mentor to
guide them through the difficult issues, help
identify campus needs, be a friend, and
brainstorm ideas without the anxiety of being
evaluated. - Youve helped me grow and develop as a
professional, and given me opportunities for
reflection that I would have otherwise not had.
My only regret is that I didnt know you when I
first started as an administrator. I could have
used some good guidance then!!

- She is a part of our team and makes herself
visible and accessible to all staff members. Her
expertise in ESL/bilingual education was an added
bonus for us. She is extremely organized and very
thorough. - His breadth and depth of knowledge is a great
asset to our work. He has been a high school
administrator and is an expert in special
education issues. I learned something beneficial
from each of his campus visits - not just general
ideas, but specific strategies focused on
dropout, graduation, and student achievement
rates.
