• Abe Lincoln was born in a log cabin on February
  12, 1809 in Hardin County, Kentucky.
• His parents names were Tom and Nancy Lincoln,
  and he had one older sister named Sarah.

• When Abe was 7, his family moved to Indiana.
• Abe started school when he was 8 years old. He
  had to walk 1 1/2 miles to school.
• He learned his lessons by speaking aloud, and he
  studied reading, writing, and arithmetic.

-His dad remarried a year later to Sarah Bush
Johnston. Abe and his step-mom became very close.

• When he was 10, his mom died of milk fever.
  Their cow ate poisonous weeds called snake root,
  and it made the milk poisonous.

• He moved again to Illinois when he was 22.
• He became a storekeeper in New Salem, and he
  became popular for storytelling.
• He was well-respected for his friendliness and
  honesty.
• In March 1832, he decided to run for the state
  legislature.

• In 1834, Lincoln was elected to the state
  legislature and served for three terms in a row.
• He then began practicing law and moved to
  Springfield, IL to start his law practice.
• He did this for the next 24 years of his life.

• He then married Mary Todd Lincoln on November 4,
  1842.
• They had 4 children Robert, William (Willie),
  Edward (Eddie), and Thomas (Tad). Only Robert
  lived to be over 19.

• He became President November 6, 1860, and was
  president during the Civil War.
• Lincoln delivered what is still known as the most
  memorable speech in the U.S.A. It is called the
  Gettysburg Address. It lasted 2 minutes and
  honored those killed at the Battle of Gettysburg.
• Abraham Lincoln freed the slaves in America.

• Five days after the Civil War ended on April 9,
  1865, Lincoln was assassinated.
• He was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth in
  Fords Theatre while watching a play with his
  wife.

• Lincoln is on the penny!
• One of Lincolns favorite jokes How many legs
  would a dog have if you called its tail a leg?
  When his kids answered 5 he said, No, it would
  only have 4. Calling a tail a leg doesnt make
  it a leg!
• He had a dog named Honey as a kid, and his 1st
  pet was a pig!

  Rushmore in South Dakota are both tributes to
  Lincoln.
