Excellent Progress!

• We have many examples of groups using grid
  software successfully, including
• Telescience Extensions
• Climate Simulation
• High-Energy Physics
• Computational Chemistry
• EcoGrid
• Encyclopedia of Life
• And others
• We are starting to share some software
• SCE (running on crayon.rocksclusters.org),
  SCMSWeb
• Ninf-G
• NIMROD
• gFarm
• Rocks (Korean localization by KISTI)
• And others
• But we still have much to do
• Daily use is still too hard

• For those with children, you understand the
  concept of kids playing side-by-side, but not
  with each other
• Challenge 1
• How do we improve sharing of our experiences
  among ourselves
• Challenge 2
• How do provide an functional environment that
  makes it easy to communicate these experiences
• Challenge 3
• How do make easier for others to replicate what
  works for our science drivers

Making the Grid Usable Everyday

• This is still our major goal
• 3 Suggestions for making headway on this
• Write joint papers on Practices and Experience.
  Submit to CCGrid (papers due near SC2004), HPDC (
  Papers due in Jan), other Grid-related
  conferences
• Groups with similar science goals would make good
  teams for this
• Build a production grid of PRAGMA-dedicated and
  PRAGMA-associated resources
• Yoshio is leading the way with his Asia Pacific
  Grid Documents, we should help
• Are there PRAGMA core resources (CA, MDS Servers,
  SCMSWeb monitor, ) that need to be run at one or
  two sites?
• Some sites have allocated dedicated resources
  lets get accounts created and applications
  working on this resource set
• (Need Resources Group and Applications Groups
  crosstalk)
• Create a PRAGMA Software Reference Library
• We should point to packages of software that work
  and document the configurations used
• We should not build any sort of distribution,
  just point to the SW we use and how we use it.
