Introduction
  • The United States has many symbols that remind
    people of our wonderful country.
  • Have you ever wondered
  • Where the Statue of Liberty came from?
  • Why is the United States flag red, white, and
    blue?
  • How the Liberty Bell got a crack in it?
  • Who wrote the Star Spangled Banner?
  • In this webquest you will work with two
partners to travel around the country to learn
more about some of the most important symbols in
the history of the United States of America.

4
Task
  • During this webquest you and two other
students will travel to different internet sites
to learn about some of the most famous symbols of
America. You will travel through America and
discover many interesting facts about several
symbols. As you embark on your journey, you will
choose at least four American symbols and take
notes over them on the Information Sheet
provided. At the end of your journey through
America, you and your partners will create a
Symbols of America Brochure. Your brochure
will include important information about the
symbols that immigrants and foreign visitor who
come to the United States might need to learn.

5
Process
  • You will work in groups of three on this project.
  • Decide who is going to be the driver of the
computer, the navigator of the computer, and the
    historian.
  • Click on Information Sheet for the note taking
    while traveling across America.
  • Click on internet links page to visit sites of
    many famous American symbols.
  • As a group choose the four symbols you will be
    researching.
  • Start your researching of the four symbols that
your group will include in your American
Symbols brochure. The historian will need to
record the information on the Information Sheet
provided above. The driver will actually click on
the links and drive the computer. The navigator
needs to help the driver by telling him/her where
    to go and click.
  • Now that you have traveled across America and
researched the four symbols you are ready to
    create your brochure.
