26Step V. Assignment Write a film introduction
and a film review according to what you have seen
and read about the film.
27Compare the two samples and tell which is a film
introduction and which is a film review.
28Sample Athe Horse Whisperer(???)is so good a
film that it is worth seeing twice. It tells
about a story of the healing power of love. The
plot of the film is quite simple. It starts with
two teenage girls leaving their houses in the
early morning
29for a horseback ride. An unexpected accident
killed one girl and her horse and made the other
girl Grace lose one of her leg and her beloved
horse called Pilgrim is also badly hurt. Graces
parents are ill-prepared for the disaster.
30They are also ill-prepared to help their daughter
cope with (overcome)her physical disability and
the mental scars(??????) of
31having seen her best friend run down by an out-of
control truck. Annie, graces mother decides that
Graces recovery will be aided if she can find a
way to heal Pilgrim.
32 So, with her daughter and the horse in tow(???),
Annie heads out to Montana, where a legendary
horse whisperer Tom Booker lives and works on a
ranch (??).
33 Tom finally agrees to help the horse, and so
begins a long period f restoration for four
souls(??) Pilgrim, Grace, Annie and Tom.
34Last weekend I watched a film. The setting of the
film is in the USA of the 1990s. I regard it as
the best English film that I have ever seen.
35 At the outset I feared I might be bored by the
film, but, despite of the running length, I found
myself thoroughly absorbed.
36The presentation of the truck accident is
memorable for the way in which it is stagedits
loud, horrifying, and chaotic.
37 The editing and cinematography are perfect,
and fashion and unforgettable cinematic moment.
Its a film as rich in visual presentation as it
is in its emotional resonance (??).
38There is an Oscar-caliber performance in the film
given by the actress Scarlett Johansson. As
Grace, Johansson does everything necessary to
make Grace a living and vital character,
39 and like all good performers, much of her acting
comes through subtle(???) expression changes and
body language. Johansson is so effective, in
fact, that Graces story become
40The Horse Whisperers emotional core (??), not
just a plot device(??????) whereby Tom and Annie
find themselves and one another.
