6It Pays to be Prepared
- Whether you are at home, work, or anywhere in
between, heres what you need to know to - Shelter-In-Place.

7Before an Emergency
- Discuss shelter-in-place with your family and
coworkers. - Determine your day care centers policy on
shelter-in-place - Find out how familiar your childrens school is
with shelter-in-place - Select a room in your home and business with few
windows and doors

8Equip Yourself with
- Plastic sheeting
- Towels
- First aid kit
- Water
- Fresh batteries
- Non-perishable food
- Flashlight
- Duct Tape
- AM/FM Battery-powered radio
- NOAA Weather Alert radio
- Activities for your children
and yourself (books, games, etc.)
9How will you be Notified if a Hazardous Chemical
Emergency Exists
- Radio/NOAA Weather Alert Radio
- TV
- Police or Fire Department Members
- Loud Speakers
- Telephone
- Neighbor or friend
10What to do if instructed to Shelter-in-Place
- Go inside your home or building
- Preferably in a room with no windows
- Stay inside
- Listen to the radio or watch TV
- Turn off heating and cooling systems
- Close all windows and doors
- If instructed tape your doors/windows
- Keep your pets inside.
- Wait for an ALL CLEAR from authorities on your TV
or radio

11 Keep car vents windows closed when traveling.
DO NOT use the car air conditioner/heater or
vents.
12DO NOT go to schools to pick up children.
Children will be cared for by school
personnel.
13If Requested, Prepare to Evacuate
- If the situation escalates you may be asked to
evacuate. - Stay tuned to emergency alerts on the TV or radio
for additional instructions. - Pack only what your needClothes, Medicine, Baby
supplies, Flashlight Portable radios, Cash,
Checkbook - Follow evacuation routes as instructed
- Only use the telephone for emergencies
- Call 911 if emergency assistance is required.

- Two to three gallons per person per day
- Three quarts for drinking
- Three quarts for food preparation and sanitation

- Ready to eat - canned meats and vegetables
- Canned juices - milk, soup
- High energy food - peanut butter, jelly,
crackers, granola bars, and trail mix - Specialty foods for - infants, elderly, persons
on a special diet - Comfort/stress foods - instant coffee, hard
