Step One Shop

• New applications can come on CDs or be beamed,
  but usually you have to get them from the
  Internet
• There are three ways to shop online

Step Two Purchase Delivery

• Check for
• Freeware/shareware/commercial
• Palm OS version
• Free trial
• File type
• Additional software requirements
• Screen shots
• Click to download
• Pay attention to where you are saving
• File type!!!

Step Three Unpack

• Usually files come in a compressed and unusable
  format so that they can be downloaded quickly.
• .zip, .sit, .bin
• You have to unpack or decompress the file.
• If you have a utility like Unzip or Unstuffit you
  should be able to just double-click the file and
  it will decompress.
• Pay attention to where the decompressed files get
  stored and how many and what type they are.

Step Four Set-up

• Now you need to move the file from your desktop
  computer to your handheld computer
• Find the files (.prc, .pdb, readme, .pdf,
  installs, setups)
• Checkout any readme or pdf files on the desktop
  computer, especially if you are not familiar with
  the application.
• If there is an install or setup file try to use
  it first.
• If there are just .prc and possibly .pdb files,
  simply double-click them.
• HOTSYNC

Step Five Play!

• Try your new software
• If it crashes your handheld
• Soft reset
• Try it again
• Delete application
• Check OS compatibility
• If it works
• Think about purchasing if it is commercial or
  shareware
• Keep playing and having fun!
• Time to go shopping again
