Personal Quotes
  • When and where did Martin make this famous
    speech?
  • Pick out five key words you find in the speech.
  • Copy out the quote that begins I have a dream
that one day my four little children
  • Why do you think that these words made history?

17
Loving your Enemy
  • Jesus said Love your enemies do good to those
who hate you bless those who curse you and pray
to those who ill treat you. If anyone hits you on
one cheek, let him hit the other too. If anyone
takes your coat let him have your shirt as well.
Give to everyone who asks you for something, and
when someone takes what is yours, do not ask for
it back. Do to others just what you want them to
    do you.
  • (Luke 6 27-31)

18
Loving your Enemy
  • Make a list of things Jesus said people ought to
    do.
  • (Clue doing things for people you do not like)
  • Think about Martin and Desmond. Can you think of
times when they tried to put love into action?
  • (Clue what did martin do when his house was
bombed? What happened when there was a bomb scare
    at Desmond's peace prize ceremony?)

19
The Poison Tree
  • I was angry with my friend
  • I told my wrath, my wrath did end.
  • I was angry at my foe
  • I told it not, my wrath did grow.
  •
  • And I watered it in fears
  • Night and morning with my tears
  • And I sunned it with smiles
  • And with soft deceitful wiles.
  •
  • And it grew both day and night
  • Till it bore an apple bright
  • And my foe beheld it shine
  • And it knew that it was mine.
  •
  • And into my garden stole
  • When the night had veiled the pole
  • In the morning glad I see
  • My foe outstretched beneath a tree.

20
Equality between people
  • So there is no difference between Jews and
Gentiles between slaves and free men between
men and women you are all in union with Christ.
  • (Galatians 3 28)

21
Equality between all people
  • How do we know that Martin and Desmond believed
    this as well?

22
Fighting for right- a just cause
  • Jesus said If anyone wants to come with me he
must forget self, carry his cross, and follow
mewhoever loses his life will save it.
  • (Mark 10 34,35)

23
Fighting for right- a just cause
  • What does this quotation say might be one the
consequences to be prepared for if you follow
Jesus? (Clue what could you lose?)
  • What does the quotation say could be gained
through following Jesus? (Clue what could be
    saved? How?)
  • Think about Martin and Desmond. What did they do
that shows us they were fighting for right- a
just cause? (Clue demonstrations, speeches- for
    what?)

24
Poster/Presentation

  • Include key words/ concepts
  • Show the relationship between the concepts
