Title: Intro to Titus

1
  • Intro to Titus
  •  11 From Paul, a slave of God and apostle of
Jesus Christ, to further the faith of Gods
chosen ones and the knowledge of the truth that
    is in keeping with godliness,
  • 2 in hope of eternal life, which God, who does
not lie, promised before the ages began.
  • 3 But now in his own time he has made his message
evident through the preaching I was entrusted
with according to the command of God our Savior.
  • 4 To Titus, my genuine son in a common faith.
Grace and peace from God the Father and Christ
    Jesus our Savior!

  • Pauls call was
  • 1. To further the faith of Gods chosen ones
  • 2. To further the knowledge of the truth
  • 3. Which results in godliness.
  • Knowledge of the truth should lead to
    GODLINESS!

Gods chosen ones. Something very powerful is
stated here. Note these verses John
1026-29 Acts 1348 2 Thess 213 Eph 14-6

The hope here is not, I hope so with some doubt
because we are not entirely certain. No! It is
being fully convinced that what God has promised
He is also able to perform (Rom 421)
5
  • Rom 413 For the promise to Abraham or to his
descendants that he would inherit the world was
not fulfilled through the law, but through the
righteousness that comes by faith. 414 For if
they become heirs by the law, faith is empty and
the promise is nullified.   415 For the law
brings wrath, because where there is no law there
is no transgression either. 416 For this reason
it is by faith so that it may be by grace, with
the result that the promise may be certain to all
the descendants not only to those who are under
the law, but also to those who have the faith of
Abraham, who is the father of us all 417 (as it
is written, I have made you the father of many
nations). He is our father in the presence of
God whom he believed the God who makes the
dead alive and summons the things that do not yet
exist as though they already do.

6
  • 418 Against hope Abraham believed in hope with
the result that he became the father of many
nations according to the pronouncement, so
will your descendants be.   419 Without being
weak in faith, he considered his own body as dead
(because he was about one hundred years old) and
the deadness of Sarahs womb. 420 He did not
waver in unbelief about the promise of God but
was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God.
421 He was fully convinced that what God
promised he was also able to do. 422 So indeed
it was credited to Abraham as righteousness.
  • 423 But the statement it was credited to him was
not written only for Abrahams sake, 424 but
also for our sake, to whom it will be credited,
those who believe in the one who raised Jesus our
Lord from the dead. 425 He was given over
because of our transgressions and was raised for
    the sake of our justification.

7
  • Unless our faith rests solely in what Christ
alone accomplished on the cross, and that Gods
acceptance of us is only in and because of the
Beloved, we will always have a twang of doubt in
the back of our mind. The bible says, fully
convinced. This my friends cannot be gained by
looking to ourselves for any assurance. If we are
honest, we will always see a short coming. To
look to Christ is peace, to look to self is to
shudder. If you lack assurance of your final
destiny and doubt, it is because your eyes are
off Christ and on your own goodness.

This is what is described also in Hebrews Heb
11 After God spoke long ago in various portions
and in various ways to our ancestors through the
prophets, 12 in these last days he has spoken to
us in a son, whom he appointed heir of all
things, and through whom he created the world.
