What is Podcasting?

• Inspired by Apples Ipod
• Creation and distribution of a digital audio file
• Uses the Internets Real Simple Syndication
  (RSS)feeds to send audio content to MP3 player

Why is it Significant?

• Allows education to be more portable than ever
• Helps meet students where they live (on the
  Internet and audio players)
• Cost is minimal
• Projected to become a mainstream application like
  video-on-demand

What are the Implications for Teaching and
Learning?

• Allows students to use their technology-based
  entertainment systems for educational purposes
• Broadens educational in a non-threatening (for
  them!) and accessible manner
• Allows course content to be made available to
  students if they miss class
• Students can create their own to reflect their
  understanding

Downsides of Podcasting

• Users must have sufficient bandwidth to download
  the podcast.
• Producers must have time and patience when first
  beginning
