Symptoms

• No symptoms, normal vision, no pain at first
• Later, start to miss things to side and corner of
  eye
• Eventually no side vision or blindness

Cause and Diagnosis

• Caused by high pressure in eye, damages optic
  nerve
• More common in blacks, elderly, and can be
  genetic
• Doctor uses visual acuity, visual field, pupil
  dilation, and tonometry to look for glaucoma

Treatments

• No cure
• Pills and eyedrops cause eye to make less fluid
  or help drain fluid, most common
• Laser surgery helping to stretch drainage holes
• Conventional surgery that creates small channel
  for fluid to drain

• Looking for genes that cause glaucoma, found one
• Foundations like Catalyst for a Cure that help
  connect labs and study glaucoma
