• It is clear that the Pharisees did not like
  their indictment, by Jesus, for rejecting Johns
  preaching on the kingdom of heaven. They now
  become openly adversarial and seek to destroy
  Him. Previously Jesus has been charged with
  casting out devils by the power of Satan (934
  also 1224), gluttony and drunkenness (1119),
  and now a Sabbath breaker (1-14).

• 1) Who was plucking the ears of corn when hungry?
  Was this lawful? Is Jesus now advocating
  situation ethics and teaching necessity knows no
  law?
• Disciples. Yes. No.
• Eating on the Sabbath was not sinful. The
  disciples were simply putting food to their
  mouths.
• Consider if it was, then the point Christ makes
  would make the Pharisees claim legitimate. i.e.
  see you are just like David unlawful
• However, Christ is pointing out their
  hypocritical inconsistent ways. The Pharisees
  here have exonerated the guilty and condemned the
  innocent.
• Situation Ethics? Not. Consider 40 days without
  food not provided. Or 519

• 2) What is the point of in this place is one
  greater than the temple I will have mercy,
  and not sacrifice?
• If priestly duties superseded the Sabbath law (or
  working), then One greater than the Temple
  takes precedence over the Sabbath.
• Consider that the Temple represented the dwelling
  of Gods presence. Jesus now claims to be greater
  where God dwells. If you have seen me, you have
  seen the Father
• I will have mercy, and not sacrifice? A change
  from old to new.
• 3) To stop the threat of Jesus, what did the
  Pharisees plan to do?
• Destroy him. Kill him.

  text?
• Wisdom v15 He withdrew himself not because He

  die.

• Servant, Chosen, Beloved, Pleasing to God.
  Because of this, Gods Spirit is put upon him
  to complete His work and show judgment to the
  Gentiles i.e. universal blessing.
• Bruised Reed Smoking Flax plentiful and cheap
  when broken, simply discard and replace. When
  flax, used as wick in a lamp, smoked more than
  the light it produced, simply snuffed and
  replaced routinely.
• This speaks of the mercy of Christ toward people
  and affirms His statement in v7 I desire mercy
  and not sacrifice

  question?

• Evidently some within the Pharisees claimed this

• If they were going to condemn Jesus, they must
  condemn

  the Pharisees

  how would answer Jesus on this if He said to you
  have ye not read?
• It is a mindset of persistent, willful, unbelief.
• Can we actually take every sin that we have
  committed before the throne of God?
• Is there a sin that we can not?
• POINT IF WE SIN AGAINST THE SON, THERE IS
  ANOTHER WHO BEARS THE TRUTH THE HOLY SPIRIT. TO
  CONTINUE TO REJECT THE SPIRIT OF TRUTH WHICH
  TESTIFIES OF JESUS, LEAVES US IN OUR SIN THERE
  IS NOT ANOTHER!!!

  judgment?
• Every idle word
• Point words mean something. Some recent
  bulletins have mentioned the carefulness of our
  words. Words that are better left unspoken for
  the one who boast I just say whats on my mind.
  Words of contention. Words that serve no profit
  but only serve the selfish pride of an ego.
• Words speak the heart.
• What words we speak reveal a valid basis for
  justification and condemnation.
• 10) How do these verses fit in the big picture of
  our lesson today?
• We are compared to trees that can only bear good
  or bad fruit.
• Our hearts need to be pure.
• Words which flow from our hearts will either
  justify or condemn us.
• To be fit for the Kingdom of God we must
  prepare our hearts to bear good fruit and do the
  will of the Father.
