• Designed to find multiple solutions to a
  specific problem

Brainstorming Steps

• Share ideas with entire group
• Piggybacking encouraged
• Record all ideas
• Evaluate only after brainstorming time is complete

• Select a specific problem
• Set a time limit
• Suspend all judgments and evaluations
• Think of many solutions

Nominal Group Technique

• Like brainstorming, only members write their
  ideas down prior to sharing with the group.

Nominal Group Technique

• Make sure all members can define the problem
• Individually write solutions to problem
• Report one at a time, recorder noting each idea

• Discuss all ideas to make sure group is clear on
  each (without advocating)
• Rank and tabulate the solutions
• Discuss results of rankings, ranking again if
  needed

Delphi Technique

• Individuals share ideas without meeting face to
  facesimilar to Nominal Group Technique
• absentee brainstorming

• Leader selects issue or problem
• Leader communicates with group asking suggestions
  and input
• Group members generate list of ideas and give to
  leader

• Leader summarizes responses and sends to group
  members, requesting additional ideas
• Team ranks ideas and returns to leader
• Process repeated until consensus is reached and
  decision is made
