Goal of the Unit of Instruction

• To teach students about the continents of the
  world.
• Students will demonstrate their ability to
• List and name the seven continents.
• Locate the continents on a world map.
• Name the oceans of the world.
• Recognize important facts about each continent.

Unit Summary

• The student will be introduced to the seven
  continents of the world.  They will also be
  introduced to the major oceans that surround our
  continents.  Students will do several activities
  that will help them learn the continents.  They
  will work with a jigsaw puzzle activity, word
  search activity, a scavenger hunt and do an
  online research activity.  This unit of
  instruction will teach the student the seven
  continents of the world and the oceans and learn
  different information about each continent.  It
  will also teach them geography and to be able to
  spell the names of the continents and oceans.

Evaluation

• Students will present information researched
  about their continent on a PowerPoint
  presentation.
• Students will be tested on the continents and
  oceans. They will name the seven continents and
  the oceans and will have to be able to spell the
  names correctly.

What I have learned

• It takes a lot of time and effort to create a
  unit of instruction.
• A lot of planning and organization takes place in
  creating a unit of instruction.
• In order for your unit of instruction to be
  successful it is very important to follow a
  template outline.
