Concepts to consider when designing a web page

Develop a general underlying theme that unifies
the various elements of the site.
- Develop the look of the site
- Think of your audience
- Create a design that will reinforce the goal of
the site
5Colors
- Keep it simple
- Include three to six colors per site
- Keep in mind the audience
- Be sure to use web safe colors
- (hexadecimal colors vs. RGB)
6Font choice
Font a set of letters and characters in a
unified typeface. Ex Helvetica.
- Less is more
- Include no more than two fonts in a site
7Graphics
- Be consistent
- Add with purpose
- Consider size
- Consider audience
- Images should support the concept
8Logistics
Answer the three following questions
- Is the site easy to navigate through?
- Does the graphics support the site?
- Do the individual elements flow together to
create a consistent look?
9Applying themes
- Choose FormatgtTheme
- In the dialog box Apply Theme To area, click the
appropriate button - In the list box, choose the name of the theme
that you want to use - More options choose one or more Vivid colors,
Active Graphics, and Background Pictures - Click OK
10Modifying themes
- Choose FormatgtTheme
- In the dialog box list box, click the theme that
you would like to modify and click Modify - To correct colors, click on the Colors button
- To change the themes overall color scheme, use
the Color Schemes tab and choose the theme you
like - To be more selective use the Custom tab
- When finished, click OK to close the box
- Click OK again
- Save the theme
11Bookmarks
A location inside a page that is defined as a
target of a link. Used to navigate within a page.
- Select the text you want to turn into a bookmark
- Choose InsertgtBookmark
- Click OK
12Linking bookmarks
This helps visitors find their way around long
pages
- Select the hyperlink source
- Click the hyperlink button to open the dialog box
- From the Bookmark list box, choose the bookmark
that you wish to link - Click OK

Used to organize pages into cells
The easy way!!!!
- Place cursor where you want the table to appear
on the page - In the toolbar, click Insert Table
- Click and drag the pointer on the grid until the
number of highlighted boxes matches the amount of
rows and columns you want for your table - Release the mouse

- In the dialog box, enter the number of rows and
columns - Click OK

16Shared boarders
Used to maintain a consistent layout in your web
pages
- Choose FormatgtShared Borders
- In the dialog boxs Apply To section, click All
Pages button and then click boxes that correspond
to the areas in your page where you want to place
shared items - Click OK
17Hover Buttons
An animated button that, when clicked, activates
a hyperlink.
- In the page, place the cursor where you want the
button to appear - In the toolbar click the Insert Component button,
in the pop-up menu choose Hover Button - In button text enter the text that you want to
appear on top of the button - In the Link to box, enter the file name or URL of
link

- In the Effect box, choose the visual effect you
want to appear when visitor passes over the
button - You may choose a color to coincide with the
effect - Enter the buttons dimensions in Width and Height
