1 - Say only what you would say to a persons
face.

• Being online is NOT an excuse to be rude.

Remember, your online identity is NOT really a
secret.

2 Be clear in your subject and message.
The more clearly you write your message the first
time, the sooner youll get the answer you need.
Make sure your subject described the content of
your message. This makes it easier to find again
later.

3 Check your spelling
No one wants to read a badly spelled message.
Especially teachers!
Acronyms are OK when writing to friends and
family. Teachers need it all spelled
out! TTYL TTFN LOL IMO FYI BTW

4 Dont type in UPPERCASE letters.

5 Use smileys so people will understand you
better.

• -) means you are smiling
• -) means you are making a joke/winking
• -( means you are sad

More smileys -O yawning kisses -D
laughing -o surprise O shocked

6 Always be safe
Tell an adult if you get an email that worries
you (unfriendly, mean, scary, threatening, rude,
etc). Delete emails from people you dont
know. Be extremely picky about the people to
whom you give your email.
