What is Imagery?

• Imagery is a very vivid description of people,
  places or things in writing. Imagery is used to
  make things real and clear for an audience by
  using words to enhance sensory experiences.
  (auditory, visual, tactile, olfactory, gustatory,
  and kinesthetic.)

For Todays Assignment

• We will practice using imagery by creating a
  short story or poem (one page) using as many
  types of imagery as possible.
• Remember Auditory, visual, tactile, olfactory,
  gustatory, and kinesthetic.

This is Imagery

• Today I saw a bear as big as a house! He had
  feather-soft fur that was brown like a Hershey
  bar. He roared so loud my teeth rattled and his
  bear-breath made my skin turn green!

• The dog ran to his house. It was a hot day and
  he panted. Then he drank some water.

This is Imagery

• I sprung off the diving board, so high I thought
  I might get stuck on a cloud. I came down and
  splashed into the water. It was shiver-cold and
  very salty tasting. Goosebumps covered my arms
  and legs, and the water in my nose burned. Just
  when I thought my arms couldnt swim anymore, I
  had finally reached the edge of the pool!

• One day I was very tired. I didnt want to go to
  school. It was cold outside, but my mom said I
  had to go anyway.

• The skates scraped the ice and the cracking of
  the sticks against the ice echoed in my ears. I
  could feel the pain in my side as the players got
  checked into the cold wooden boards, and the
  blinking fire-red goal light was blinding.

• The hockey game was fun. I liked the players
  uniforms and my dad bought me popcorn.

• Shoes squeaked loudly on the shiny gym floor as
  the determined basketball players shuffled
  around. Sweat burned their eyes and their hearts
  were pounding out of their chests.

• I like to play basketball. My older brother
  taught me how to shoot a granny shot into the net.
