International Baccalaureate Middle Years
Program (IBMYP) grades 7 - 10

• A philosophy of teaching that focuses on a
  holistic approach and includes all students.
• There is a prescribed curriculum that includes 8
  subject areas in grades 7 10. MYP culminates
  with the Personal Project in grade 10.
• Common language throughout the MYP curriculum.

The Transition to 7th Grade

• 6 Period day you will have 6 different teachers
  throughout the day.
• 1st hour begins at 755 a.m. and 6th hour ends at
  235 p.m.
• 7th grade lockers are all on one floor with a
  majority of their Core classrooms.

• Targeted Services Packer Preview July 7th
• Open House scheduled for August 20th, 2014

7th grade schedule

• Three trimesters, 12 weeks in length
• Math, Language A, Humanities,and Science are
  full-year, every day
• Students will have physical education paired with
  Language B (Chinese,French, or Spanish) OR
  Math/Reading Academy all year every other day
• NOTE Students who have been identified as
  benefiting from remediation via NWEA test scores
  will be placed in the Math/Reading Academy course
  in place of Language B.

• Students take an every other day full year of a
  Performing Art course. They choose general
  music, choir, or band to fulfill MYP Performing
  Art requirement.
• Music is paired every other day with Business
  Technology for the year.
• For students who would like a music every day
• Zero Hour Band/Zero Hour Choir option
• Zero Hour begins at 700 a.m.
• Zero Hour is a class, not an extracurricular.
  Students receive a grade for Zero Hour and the
  grade will impact their GPA

Start of the Day

• Doors open at 645 a.m.
• Zero Hour class starts at 700 a.m.
• Class begins when the bell rings for 1st hour.
• Students need to be in their assigned seat within
  the classroom with all materials necessary
  including completed assignment.

End of the Day

• Classes end at 235 p.m.
• Students are to leave the building by 250 p.m.
  unless they are under the supervision of a
  teacher, coach, or are in Targeted Services.
• Students should have between approximately 60
  minutes of homework a night.
• The agenda should be used to record due dates and
  assignments.

Dress Code

• No hats, jackets, or headphones
• No scarves or bandanas
• Skirts and shorts must be longer than the tip of
  the students fingers
• Shirt straps must be more than 1 inch thick
• Shirts must cover the student no visible
  midriff
• Pants must be worn at the waist and need to stay
  there
• All undergarments are to be covered
• Shirts/blouses with excessive low-cut fronts are
  not allowed

Special Services

• Any student currently on an Individualized
  Education Plan will have a transition meeting
  before the end of this school year.
• Contact your childs current case manager to
  confirm your meeting day and time.
• Any student that is currently on a 504 plan,
  there should be a transition meeting set as well
  please contact your current assistant principal
  at the elementary to help set the meeting.

Students need to

• Use the agenda to write down assignments, tests,
  and due dates.
• Set time aside each day to complete homework or
  review assignments.
• Make sure to ask teachers for work when they have
  been absent.
• Be involved.
• Remember they are here to learn.

Parents Need to

• Check the agenda each night.
• Communicate with their child.
• Help with homework as needed.
• Initiate contact with teachers with questions.
• Check grades and attendance on-line SchoolView
  on a regular basis.
• Sign up for PayPals to monitor lunch account.
• Check teacher web pages and school web site
  regularly.

• This is a great time to meet new people that
  share your same interests
• Academic clubs, Activities, and Athletics
• Work with your doctor to schedule a physical this
  summer so that you are ready to start
• Look in the Smooth Sailing folder for a list of
  the activities and athletics offered

What do I do next?

• Schedule 7th grade Physical with doctor check
  on immunizations.
• Consider signing your child up for Packer Preview
  July.
• Begin talking about transition to a new building
  and the importance of good choices.
• Set up a spot in the house as a study area.
• Work on organization with your child.
• Establish a schedule leading up to the start of
  the school year (bedtime, etc).
• Navigate the SSPPS.org website to become familiar
  with key pages and how to access SchoolView.
  SchoolView pin numbers will be available at the
  registration dates in August.

  students with up to date immunizations and
  paperwork can pick up their schedule and locker
  assignment and will have school pictures taken.

• Classes begin Monday, August 25
• Seventh grade activities will start the first day
