- What is it?
- The Business Crime Prevention Program promotes
education for small businesses on crime
prevention tactics, and encourages businesses to
work with police to prevent crime and report
suspicious activities. -
- Community Police Centres provide an important
link to businesses by providing them with
practical crime prevention tools to combat
criminal activity like theft, fraud, robberies
and mischief.

- Goals
- Promote crime prevention awareness and activities
to small businesses who have walk-in clientele
and less than 20 employees. - Establish and maintain effective avenues of
communication between commercial establishments
and the police. - Provide leadership, support, guidance and
assistance to owners of commercial establishments
that express an interest in the Business Crime
Prevention Program. - To empower small businesses that are expressing
an interest, by providing them with information
packages that can reduce opportunities for break
and enter and related crimes on their property.

- Community Police Centres provide an important
link to businesses by providing them with a free
package of crime fighting tools and resources to
help combat criminal activity like theft, fraud,
robberies and mischief. -

- Program Delivery 11 Steps
- 1 Community Police Centre volunteers contact
small business owner/manger through the Victim
Assistance program, or by using promotional
flyers. - 2 The Volunteer will offer to provide the Small
Business Owner with printed materials pertinent
to the program, giving emphasis to the material
that best addresses the businesss initial
concerns. Included in the materials will be the
Volunteers business card , as well as the
business card of the CPC Officer. The volunteer
will make arrangements to deliver, mail or have
the business owner/manager attend to pick up
their crime prevention information package.

- Program Delivery 11 Steps
- 3 If the Business Crime Prevention package has
been delivered or mailed to the business owner,
the Volunteers should follow-up to ensure that
there is an understanding of its contents, and
how to use them. - 4 The Volunteer should be able to receive and
answer inquiries about the Business Crime
Prevention Program as a result of the Victim
Assistance program or Business Crime Prevention
Promotional Flyers. - 5 During all initial contacts with businesses,
volunteers should be completing the Night
Contact sheets (R26 forms) with interested
businesses.

- Program Delivery 11 Steps
- 6 Volunteers should complete the Business Crime
Prevention Log Sheet that outlines the material
provided to the business owner, for filing at the
CPC, and for regular reporting to the Crime
Prevention Program Business Owner. - 7 Three months after the delivery of the Business
Crime Prevention Program package, volunteers will
call the business owner/manager to follow-up,
using the 3-Month Survey, included in the program
materials.

- Program Delivery 11 Steps
- 8 Businesses should be contacted yearly to update
Night Contact sheets, identifying points of
contact in off-business hours. - 9 Volunteers will work closely with the CPC
Officer to identify crime trends, or Hot Spots
in the area, and will promote timely awareness
among businesses. - 10 Volunteers will create and distribute Business
Crime Prevention Promotional Flyers to target
businesses. - 11 Each CPC will be expected to provide the total
number of Business contacts for monthly/annual
report purposes.
