His Life

• George Washington Carver was born in 1857. He
  was born in Diamond Grove, Missouri.
•  Carver was thirty years old in 1890 when he
  enrolled as a freshman and was the first Black
  student at Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa.

What He Did

• He sold peanuts, and he made things with peanuts,
  such as soaps and cosmetics.
• At Tuskegee Institute in 1941 the Roosevelt
  Medal for Outstanding Contribution to Southern
  Agriculture in 1942.

Where He Lived

• George W. Carver lived in Tuskegee, Alabama.
  Before he went to Tuskegee, Alabama he lived in
  Ames, Iowa. He went on a train to go to Tuskegee,
  Alabama because he got a teaching job.
