Quality assurance at University
In recent decades University of Mostar has added
a component of economic development to its
mission, accomplished largely through transfer of
university technology to existing or new
businesses. In education, two categories of
customers are identified. One is the Internal
Customers (students) who receive the services
provided by a faculty. The other category are
External Customers that include the industries
and government agencies which employs the
graduates.

In the developed management structure of the
University, the primary responsibility for
quality assurance are management of Faculties,
School, Academy and administrative units of the
University . The top management of an
organization unit must demonstrate its
commitment to establish and implement of the
quality management system and to continuously
improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the
system.

ADVISORY BOARD
SENATE DECISION 2007. All Faculties or
departments need an independent high-level body
to increase effectiveness and quality of
education process. The advisory board should be
made up of high-level individuals from the
scientific community, bussiness/industry, and the
services sector, and students.

THE ADVISORY BOARD
LEVEL Advisory boards are implemented at two
levels Faculty level -Some faculties (Faculty of
Law, Economy, Medicine, Civil Engineering,
Agronomy, High Health School). These faculties
have one study program. Curriculum level Faculty
of philosophy, Faculty of mathematics, human
science and education, Faculty of mechanical
engineering and computing, Academy of Fine Art.
They have two or more study programs.

COMPOSITION OF CURRICULUM ADVISORY BOARD
The Advisory Board at the level of curriculum
consists of at least 9 but no more than 15 active
members (Faculty council makes decision about
number of members). Nomination of members The
nomination process will be as follows a) ½
members with an academic focus and will be
nominated from academic community, b) ¼ members
with a business and industrial focus and will be
nominated on the basis university-industry
experience, c) ¼ students of final years and will
be nominated on the basis of success during the
study

CRITERIA FOR ELECTION OF MEMBERS
a) Excellence in education and research and/or
research management b) Advisory experience on a
national or international level c) Balance
among science and technology disciplines
including persons with specific
university-industry experience (Employees of
industry work at University or hes expert in the
field of study program, participates in projects,
supervises students at industry) d) appropriate
gender balance.

THE TERM OF OFFICE
The mandate for an Advisory Board member from
academic and business/industry is three years,
with the option to renew for up to one additional
term. The term for students is one year, with
the option to renew for up to one additional
term. The Mandate begins October 1 (start of
academic year) The Board will elect a Chairperson
and vice-chairperson

APPLICATION OF CANDIDATES
The Candidates for Advisory Board submit a
letter, at least 30 days prior to the election,
where they a) declare their interest to be a
member of advisory board, b) detail the material
support that they can bring to the position, and
c) provide additional information in support of
their election (e.g., a curriculum vitae and
endorsement letters). The Election will not be
discriminated in any matter, on the basis of age,
disability, ethnicity, gender, marital status,
national origin, political affiliation, race,
religion, sexual orientation, or veteran status.

CURRICULUM ADVISORY BORD - EXAMPLE
Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Computing
formed a Curriculum Advisory Board that consists
of respected educators with strong experience
relevant to computing education. It includes
individuals from diverse traditions and regions,
representing both theoretical and operational
expertise at the full range of course levels.

SURVEY FOR JUST GRADUATED
Two to three months after completion of their
studies, the graduates will be asked about their
professional plans and roads which are open to
them. We sent survey form in July 2007. for all
students which graduated in summer semester this
academic year. Questions are asked about the
estimation of the employment market, the success
or lack in seeking employment, the correspondence
between own conceptions of employment and the job
found and finally also about the importance of
personal further education after study completion
.

  • At the University of Mostar all components of
    dissemination may be summerized in two forms
  • awareness we discussed with others about
    project, stimulated discussion about the project,
    seeking experts to contribute to surveys, we used
    publications, international conferences,
    dissemination channels (radio and television)
    etc.
  • understanding and change this project is
    encouraging individuals, faculties, departments,
    organisational units at the University to make
    changes with the goal to improve the quality
    management and promote university enterprise
    cooperation.
