Title: HAMPTON COURT PALACE
1HAMPTON COURT PALACE
2- Hampton Court Palace was Henry Vlll,s favorite
palace
Until 1529, Cardinal Wolsey lived there. When
he died, Henry started living there instead.
3Thomas Wolsey offered it to the King as a gift
fearing perhaps that its grandeur outstripped
that of the King's own palaces at St. James's and
Whitehall, and being the political creep that he
was, also wanted to keep his head!
4In 1515, Cardinal Wolsey built Hampton Court
Palace by the side of the River Thames. In 1525
it was given to Henry VIII who enlarged and
improved it . In the 17th century Mary II and her
husband William the Orange.
5The Kitchens
The main part of the palace were the kitchens.
They took up most of the palace because of the
amount of food they needed to cook for the king
was tremendous. The feasts that were cooked
there were wonderful. They had many different
dishes, mainly consisting of boiled and cooked
meats.
6The Gateway
7In 1514, Wolsey was created Archbishop of York
and, a year later, he was made a cardinal by the
Pope and Lord Chancellor by Henry VIII. He spent
lavishly and built palatial residences at York
