Buckingham Palace
Welcome to Buckingham Palace. We spent our first
day there. This is Queen Elizabeths home. It is
a palace with 600 rooms. It has many beautiful
gardens. If you wake up early enough you can see
the changing of the guards. Queen Elizabeths
palace was built in 1762.

Food from England
  • Today we went to a restaurant. We had a sandwich
with tomatoes , cheese, salad, and meat. We
learned a hungry English man invented the
sandwich when he ordered slices of meat and
cheese stuffed between 2 pieces of bread. Some
other food from England are cheddar cheese,
Salisbury steak , Shepherds pie, fish and chips,
    and Yorkshire pudding.

Guy Fawkes Day
  • Guy Fawkes Day is on November 5th. Guy Fawkes
lived 400 years ago. He did not like the king or
the government. He planned to blow up the king.
Now they throw a scarecrow that looks like him
into bonfires to make fun of him. They also have
    lots of fireworks.

Shopping in England
  • Some souvenirs from England are snow globes,
caps, bags, double-decker buses, and stuffed
bears, like Paddington and Winnie the Pooh. First
we have to go to the bank to exchange our
American dollars for English pound sterlings.
Then, we went to a gift shop and our bought
    stuffed bears.

6
Sports
  • Some sports in England are cricket ,and rugby .
Cricket players are called batsman. Cricket is
similar to Baseball. Cricket is most popular in
the summer. Rugby is just like football but with
more players on a team. Lots of people enjoy
    watching a game of Rugby.

English Schools
  • Today we met a young girl named Emily. She told
us all about schools in England. We learned about
elementary and high schools first. There are
hundreds of schools in England. It is free to go
to school if you are in ages 5-16. Kids can
choose if they want to be home schooled or they
can go to school. There are 2 separate stages.
They are from ages 5-11 and 12-18. You are
addressed as your surname, ( your last name) when
you are in 4-11. When you are in 11-16 you are
addressed as Miss or Sir. In middle school, there
are fun days that are called rainbow days. You
get to dress up in colorful clothes. They also
have delicious dinners. They have lots of school
clubs. They are choir, country dancing, cross
    country running, Judo, and football.
