    Districts
  • NZ 11,000 members, 6 districts
  • D9940 comprises 62 clubs with approx. 2,500
    members
  • Covers lower North Island from Waitara (west)
    Raetihi-Ohakune (central), to Dannevirke (east)

Rotary International is governed by a president
and a board of directors elected from all over
the world.

In the beginning ...
  • The first Rotary Club was organized in Chicago in
    1905, by Paul P. Harris
  • The club, with four members, met in rotation at
    the offices of the members - thus the name Rotary
  • At December 2002 there were 31,257 clubs with
    1,243,431 members

Women in Rotary
  • In 1987 women were admitted to Rotary
  • Today, the number of women in clubs is increasing
    with many clubs having women serving as
    presidents. (9 this Rotary year).
  • Judy Bain was the first woman Governor in 2002-03

Service Above Self
  • It was soon recognised that what had begun as
    fellowship alone could not sustain the group -
    there needed to be a purpose
  • The first Rotary project was a public toilet
    facility in downtown Chicago
  • Rotary thus became the worlds first Service
    Club

  • The object of Rotary is to encourage and foster
    the ideal of service as a basis of worthy
    enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and
    foster

    in one of the countries

    Award for World Understanding
  • The goal of Rotary is to eradicate Polio from the
    world by Rotarys Centenary in 2005
  • More than US500 million targeted to be raised
    before 2005

Group Study Exchange
  • Teams comprising a Rotary leader and four
    non-Rotarian business or professional people
    visit a Rotary district in another country for
    4-6 weeks.
  • Purpose is for a cultural and goodwill exchange,
    and the opportunity for team members to study
    their vocations as practiced in the host country.
  • Team is hosted by Rotarians in host district
