1775 Lexington and Concord

  • Congress agreed to recognize the colonial militia
    as the Continental Army and appointed George

  • Gage sent 2,400 British soldiers to take Breeds
    Hill. Colonists lost 450 men while the British
    suffered over 1,000 casualties.

    hopes of peace.

Olive Branch Petition
  • Urged the King to return to former harmony
    between Britain and the Colonies.
  • King George III flatly rejected the Petition and
    issued a proclamation stating that the colonies
    were in rebellion and urged Parliament to order a
    naval blockade.
