Course Information

• This is microeconomics principles. It has a
  bearing on present economic conditions.
  Describes structural and functional aspects of
  the economy. Analyzes the organization of
  business, labor, and governmental institutions
  and their economic stability and growth.
  Presents measures of economic activity.
  Discusses private enterprise, economic growth and
  stabilization policies, and monetary and fiscal
  policies. Considers international economic
  relationships and alternative economic systems.
• This is an on-line class, and there are no
  classroom instructions. However, I will be
  available to me with any students for additional
  discussion with prior appointment.

• Welcome to Rappahannock Community Colleges
  Principles of Economics I on-line course. This
  is a Flexible Learning Opportunities course
  designed specifically for those students whose
  learning styles are best served by providing
  instructional opportunities beyond the
  traditional classroom setting. For this on-line
  course, access to a computer and the ability to
  send and receive e-mail, including the use of the
  Internet is required.

Course Objectives.

• Course Objectives
• 1. To introduce the student to economics and the
  economy.
• 2. To discuss the role of individual entities
  such as, households, firms, Individual markets,
  and price determination within the market.
• 3. To introduce the students to the different
  types of market i.e. Pure competition, Monopoly,
  Monopolistic competition, and Oligopoly.
  
  
• 4 To introduce the student to the role of the
  U.S. government in economic activities.

Grading

• Grading The final grade for the course will be
  determined as follows
• Exam 1-Mid-Term 25
• Exam 2-Final 30
• Quizzes 25
• Discussions 15
• Icebreaker/Attendance 5
• (Attendance will be based on your participation
  in the discussion and quizzes.)

Evaluation

• Quizzes will be taken online anywhere you can
  find a computer.
• Exams 1 and 2 will be administered on campus in
  the testing centers. They will be password
  protected and the only way you will have the
  password is by being present in the testing
  center.
• Discussion Questions in Blackboard.
• You answers should be substantive, meaning that
  it must relate to the content of the course. The
  content of your answer will determine the number
  of points you earn for a particular discussion.

Evaluation Contd.

• Introduction
• Your first assignment is to post an
  introduction/biographical information about your
  self in the discussion board. This must be done
  prior to the end of week one otherwise you suffer
  the loss of the points for this assignment. You
  are welcome to review my biographical information
  posted in the on Blackboard under staff
  information.

Getting Started with Assignments

• Start Early with the Assignments for the class.
• The first test will be made available starting
  Monday 23, 2005. Remember you are only allowed to
  access the test once, so be sure you are ready to
  take the test before starting.

• In order to truly improve, we must evaluate the
  class. Please complete your course evaluation
  when posted in Blackboard near the end of the
  semester.
