Meet the Instructor
  • Hello, my name is Bob Parker. I am a mathematics
instructor at RCC- Warsaw. I have a Bachelor of
Science from Randolph-Macon College and a Masters
of Arts in Education from The College of William
and Mary. I have been teaching statistics for
the past 12 years in high schools and online. I
look forward to working with you.

Welcome
  • Welcome to Math 240 Statistics. This course will
give you a solid foundation in introductory
statistics and will help you understand the world
around you through the use of numbers. The
course will use a variety of instructional
    methods including online notes, tutorials,
projects, textbook references, and one- on-one
    instruction when necessary.
  • I look forward to working with you to help you
succeed in this class. Success in this course
will depend in part on student effort, access to
the internet, and competency using Blackboard and
    Internet-based tutorial programs. . I highly
recommend that you use a graphing calculator
throughout the course. Statistics is no longer a
number crunching course, modern technology has
transformed it into the science of understanding
    data.

Statistics Course Overview
  • This course presents an overview of statistics,
    including descriptive statistics, elementary
    probability, probability distributions,
    estimation, hypothesis testing, and correlation
    and regression.

9
How will your grade be determined?
  • Your grade will be determined in the following
    manner
  • 1. Unit tests a unit test must be taken at the
end of each unit. These tests will be taken in
the testing center. Students may use a
calculator and may have one page (8 ½ by 11)
    front side only of notes.
  • 2. Unit projects will be assigned at various
stages of the course. The purpose of these
projects is to allow students an opportunity to
use the skills learned in this course, in a real
world setting. The unit projects also serve as
practice for the final exam project.
  • 3. Homework Homework will be completed online
through the Mathzone program. Homework will be
graded for completeness and being on time.
  • 4. Chapter quizzes chapter quizzes will be
taken in blackboard and will provide feedback for
the student. Chapter quizzes must be completed by
the late date in the syllabus or a grade of 0
will be given for that quiz.
  • 5. Final exam Students may elect to take a
cumulative final exam. The final exam grade may
replace the lowest unit test grade if it is
    higher.
