Tom and the Magic Helmet
  • By Lorena Villegas-Cid
  • Thomas Trelford

2
  •
  • Tom was a very normal little boy. He used to
play in the garden very much. One day he saw his
helmet glowing. He did not understand why, so he
took a closer look. The helmet was glowing like a
    little star.

3
  •
  • Tom put his magic helmet on and closed his
eyes. All of a sudden he was in outer space! He
was between Planet Earth and Mars.
  • He felt so light he flew like a feather.
His magic helmet helped him to breathe normally
as there is no air in space. Now he could go
    anywhere he wanted.

4
  •
  • Tom was amazed! He could see the most
    incredible things.
  • Not only could he see the star Sol, he could
also see the whole Solar system. There, in front
of him all the little planets going around the
    sun in an endless loop.
  • He saw Mercury, Venus, Earth (where Tom
lives), Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune,
Pluto, and other little planets recently
    discovered. It was fantastic!

5
  •
  • Very easily he saw the biggest planet. It
looked very funny because it had a big ring
around it. That planet was Saturn. When he got
closer to Saturn, he realised that the big ring
were actually many, many rocks, big and small,
    all orbiting around it.
  • How amazing! From a distance it looked like
you might even land on Saturn. In fact, it is
made of heavy gases and liquid chemicals. All
together, the sea and the sky are only one thing.

6
  •
  • Tom travelled even further away. He saw our
own galaxy, the Milky Way. In which our solar
system is only a small part.
  • The Milky Way has a spiral form which shines
from the distance. There are many galaxies around
it, but they are millions of light years away.

7
  •
  • While watching the Milky Way, Tom entered a
meteor storm. The meteorites came from all
direction. Meteorites are rocks flying through
space. They may the debris of an old planet or a
moon. The meteorites are made of rock or metal,
    and sometimes both.

8
  •
  • Tom decided to go back to our Planet Earth.
It is made up of one quarter land and 3 quarters
water. It has the right elements to support life
and the only one in our solar system. It is close
enough to the sun to for us to be warm but far
enough that we do not burn. Oh! He could see
    South America!
  • ... And then the magic helmet started to
glow again. Its time to go back...

9
  •
  • Tom landed back at home. He had been on a
fantastic adventure. He had seen the galaxy
    thanks to his magic helmet
