    print into clay 2000 years before the

  • Etching ( dry-point)
  • Similar to engraving in that they are both
    intaglio processes
  • With engraving the line is cut into the plate by
    hand
  • With etching the line is bitten into the plate
    using acid
  • With dry-point the line is scratched into the
    plate with a sharp tool
  • With all these processes the ink is pushed into
    the incised line, and pulled out onto the paper
    when it is run through the press under pressure
