- Similar to engraving in that they are both
intaglio processes - With engraving the line is cut into the plate by
hand - With etching the line is bitten into the plate
using acid - With dry-point the line is scratched into the
plate with a sharp tool - With all these processes the ink is pushed into
the incised line, and pulled out onto the paper
when it is run through the press under pressure
