Being where I'm needed. I've started a job and I must finish it. I owe it to the people of Iraq. In 1926, the nation of Iraq is in its infancy, and British archaeologist Gertrude Bell is founding a museum in Baghdad. In 2006, Ghalia Hussein is attempting to reopen the museum after looting during the war.Decades apart, these two women share the same goals: to create a fresh sense of unity and nationhood, to make the world anew through the museum and its treasures. But in such unstable times, questions remain. Who is the museum for? Whose culture are we preserving? And why does it matter when people are dying?A story of treasured history, desperate choices
Su Blackwell, an artist and art director, crafts very detailed tableaus, many with a fairy-tale or folklore theme, by deconstructing, cutting, and sculpting old books. Her work brings these fables to life. She turns books into incredible paper sculptures featuring birds, trees and dreamlike fantasies and the level of detail and imagination that goes into her creations is staggering. She reads the book first and begins to create the work, adding detail that brings her work that special magic. Su has exhibited her exquisite sculptures around the World. Her illustrated book of fairy tales ‘The Fairytale Princess’, published by Thames & Hudson was re-released in 2015. Su has designed art fabric for Liberty London, and her illustrations have contributed to regular columns in ‘Intelligent Life Magazine’ and ‘Harper’s Bazaar UK’. Su has also turned her hand to art-direction for commercials, for clients such as Volvo and British Airways, and to theatre set-design.

The museum houses the major part of the national collection of Malta. The collection began in 1923 when the first fine arts curator, Vincenzo Bonello, embarked on establishing a collection within what was then called the National Museum. Bonello acquired numerous works of excellent quality on the local art market, and in London and Italy. Most were purchased at a time when prices in the art market where still within reach of the museum's modest budget. Public spirited individuals and organizations also left significant bequests.
The museum houses the major part of the national collection of Malta. A significant number of works originally belonged to the Order of the Knights of St John and come from the Magisterial Palace, the various auberges in which the knights took up residence, churches belonging to the Order, and the other places falling directly under the administration of the Order.
