eliminates the guests as suspects. He determines
that the suspect has settled elsewhere and is
    anxious not to be discovered.
  • Henry informs Holmes that now he has two boots
missing- the new brown and an old black one
  • Holmes asks if anyone around Baskerville Hall has
a black beard, and learns that Barrymore has a
    black beard.

Sir Charless Will
  • Holmes learns that Barrymore and his wife
inherited 500 pounds from Sir Charless will
  • Dr. Mortimer inherited 1000 pounds
  • James Desmond, a distant cousin, is next in line
to inherit Baskerville Hall if something happens
    to Henry

  • Holmes sends a telegram to Baskerville Hall to
see if Barrymore is really there
  • Henry insists on going to Baskerville Hall, and
Holmes volunteers Watson to accompany him. Holmes
says he cant go right now because of other cases
he must take care of first, but Watson is to
write to Holmes and report everything that
    happens.
  • After lunch, Henry finds his missing, brown boot
under a cabinet in the corner of the room.
Mortimer swears that he searched that spot before
    lunch.

The 3 Broken Threads
  • That evening Holmes receives 2 telegrams one
from Henry stating that Barrymore is at
Baskerville Hall the second from Cartwright
stating he found no trace of the Times newspaper
  • The cabman, John Clayton, arrives at Baker Street
and reveals that his passenger claimed to be a
detective and was told not to tell anyone about
    him
  • Holmes believes that all his leads have been
destroyed and he is at a dead end. He believes
this suspect is a worthy opponent, and wishes
    Watson better luck in Devonshire.

6
The Passenger
  • Clayton tells Holmes that he picked up his
passenger at Trafalgar Square. They went
to the Northumberland Hotel, followed two men to
Baker Street, waited, then followed them to
Regent Square, then fled to Waterloo Station
  • He describes the passenger a being about 40 years
old, middle height, pale faced, with a black
    beard
  • The passenger told the cabman that his name was
    Sherlock Holmes
