14The S.E.A.L Strategy
- Stop and Think Breathe, listen, and think when
and where, now or later? - Explain What happened that you didn't like and
what do you want? - Acknowledge Recognize anything you did that
contributed to the conflict, but acknowledge your
right to treated with respect by the other person
and vice versa. - Lock Lock in the friendship, take a vacation, or
lock the friendship out.
15Stop and Think!
- Breathe, listen, and think
- when and where,
- now or later?
16Explain!
- What happened that you didn't like
- and what do you want?
17Acknowledge!
- Recognize anything you did that contributed to
the conflict, - but acknowledge your right to treated with
respect by the other person and vice versa.
18Lock
- Lock in the friendship,
- take a vacation,
- or lock the friendship out.
19Scenario
- Laura Did you see Sara trying to guess what we
were talking about? Shes so stupid, she totally
copies everything I do! - Roger I know. Shes so annoying!
- Laura During lunch, lets just pretend she
doesnt exist. Like shes invisible. - Roger I guess
- Laura I mean, what else are we supposed to do?
Its like she thinks she can be with us all the
time, and when we dont let her shes so mean
about it!
20The S.E.A.L Strategy (Example)
- Stop and Think Im going to walk away and think
about what I need to say. I dont want to say
something Ill regret. - Explain I dont want to pretend shes
invisible. Thats messed up. I dont think itll
stop her from being mean. - Acknowledge You dont have to be friends with
Sara, but we cant be mean to her. Imagine if
everyone was ignoring you. - Lock This was hard because I really like you as
a friend, but I dont want to ignore someone like
that. I hope were still cool.
21Now YOU try S.E.A.L!
Scenario 1 (As a class) A student is cussing at
