  • Make a character check
  • Control the belief statements that motivate you.
  • Choose actions that promote self-respect.

  • Write the answers to these questions in your
    notebook.
  • Are you proud of your actions?
  • Do your actions reflect responsible values?
  • Throughout life you must make checks of your
    character in your notebook
  • Make a list of responsible values
  • Write yes if your actions reflect these values.
  • If your actions do not reflect the values you
    listed, write how you can change your actions.

  • You may have good character and act in ways that
    reflect responsible values, but still lack
    self-respect.
  • Do not internalize negative belief statements.
  • Example I will fail no matter how hard I try.
  • You control the belief statements that play in
    your mind.
  • Keep your belief statements positive.
  • Example All I can do is my best.

  • Pay attention to your appearance
  • Being well-groomed is one of the first indicators
    of self-respect.
  • Make a list of your responsible actions and
    review the list often
  • Knowing your actions are responsible helps keep
    you from getting down on yourself.
  • Be a friend to yourself by enjoying activities by
    yourself
  • Take time to get in touch with your thoughts and
    feelings.

  • Writing about feelings is a good way to examine
    what is happening in your life.

    because they have little self-respect. They may
    be living in an abusive family, or they may be
    struggling in school because of an undiagnosed
    learning disability.
