- SCSU founded in 1893 as the New Haven Normal
School - Granted College status in1937
- Renamed Southern Connecticut State College in
1959 - Renamed Southern CT State University in March
1983 - Human Performance Lab opened in 1973-74

Physical Education to Exercise Science
(which better describes its mission in

10 Application Procedure
- Apply for Department Acceptance.end of sophomore
year. - Application for practicum experience must be
submitted in the semester before practicum
registration (Exs 497). - This procedure includes completing Form I II
from back of practicum handbook. Submit
completed forms to Dr. Finn. - Handbooks available in HP Lab.

16 Student Responsibilities
1.Obtain liability insurance as required by
practicum site (hospitals) in advance of start
date. 2. Report on time each day. 3.
Professionally attired at all times and comply
with site dress code. 4. Ask for help if you
dont know or understand the assignment.
Remember students are not expected to know
everything. 5. See page 7 in HP Handbook for more
information.
17 Action Required
Set site interview date within 10 days after
receive approval from practicum supervisor to
schedule same. Advance planning required for
out-of-state opportunities. Out-of-state facility
may require a contract with SCSU. The legal
departments will handle this requirement.
18 Grades
Grades (P/F) are not awarded until all
requirements, including items 10 and 11 are
completed See details on page 7 and 8 in
Practicum Handbook Incompletes (I) are given
until all requirements are met
