ORIENTATION AGENDA
  • Pre-internship Required paperwork (i.e.
    Internship Contracts, Addendum)
  • Internship Intern Etiquette and Protocol
  • Successfully completing your internship

INTERNSHIPS BY ACADEMIC DEPARTMENT
  • You may be eligible to receive academic credit
    depending upon your major and dept. requirements
  • - A listing of all departments in which you
    may receive academic credit is listed on the
    CDCs web site
  • Some employers require that you are eligible to
    receive academic credit
  • Before starting your internship, you and your
    intern supervisor MUST complete an Internship
    Contract (see college/department requirements)
    AND have it approved by me and Faculty Supervisor

REQUIRED PAPERWORK BEFORE STARTING INTERNSHIP
  • Internship Contract / Paperwork as required by
    Academic Dept. and/or Career Development Center
  • Campus Internship Learning Contract Addendum
  • BOTH of the above documents MUST be completed and
    signed by both you and your intern supervisor

WHY MUST I COMPLETE ALL THIS PAPERWORK?
  • Both documents were created to ensure that all
    student interns are aware of their rights,
    liabilities, and responsibilities while interning
  • By signing both documents, it states that YOU AND
    YOUR SUPERVISOR agree to the conditions of the
    internship

STARTING THE INTERNSHIP - INTERNSHIP ETIQUETTE
  • Arrive On Time / Stick to your schedule
  • Dress Appropriately (Business casual
    shirt/blouse/sweater, pants/khakis)
  • Speak Professionally (Avoid Slang)
  • Use Professional Protocols (Confidentiality)
  • Go Above and Beyond the Internship Description
    SHOW INITIATIVE
  • Keep an Open Mind

PROTOCOL WHAT TO DO REGARDING ANY CONCERNS ON
AN INTERNSHIP
  • Concerns are anything that is occurring on the
    internship that you question or that make you
    feel uncomfortable including
  • Responsibilities different from those outlined in
    the Internship Contract
  • Bias (age, race, religion, etc)
  • Harassment
  • Lack of training / supervision
  • Deficiency of work

PROTOCOL (contd)
  • Students interning through the Internship Program
    may have their internship terminated if they
  • Do not maintain a consistent work schedule
  • Show limited interest in the work or the site
  • Do not notify staff of tardiness or absence
  • Are unable to perform the required duties/skills
    needed for the internship
  • Students whose internships are terminated for any
    of the above reasons or due to any unethical
    circumstances will not receive college credit.

WHO TO CONTACT REGARDING ANY CONCERNS
  • Inform your intern site supervisor
  • Contact me and the designated Faculty Supervisor
    Immediately!

UPON COMPLETION OF INTERNSHIP
  • Have your immediate intern supervisor complete
    the mid- and/or end-of-semester Evaluation Forms
  • Your supervisor should fax or mail the Evaluation
    Form directly to the faculty supervisor (or me)
