  • A causal framework for describing interactions
    between society and the environment.

Driving forces
  • Underlying factors that influence development
    such as population growth, energy consumption,
    economic growth and industrial production.
  • Driving forces may be of economic, judicial,
    social, political or technological nature.

  • Human activities that influence the natural
    environment and changes its state.
  • Examples Emissions of polluting substances or
    resource exploitation such as land use.
