Catastrophe theory
This is a modification of the Inverted U theory.
It suggests that circumstances causing over
arousal can cause a dramatic deterioration a
catastrophe
A cognitive anxiety(worrying)and physiological
arousal are high threshold reached B if over
arousal continues performer deteriorates further
to c D if performer calms down and refocuses
performance gradually improves to d optimum
levels may again then reach most effective level
