- Keep Away Variations
- Add one or more offense only neutral players.
- Three touch only, two touch only, or one touch
only. - Add a second ball.
- Assign players who remain in one quarter of the
grid (4 smaller grids). - Assign players who remain at the perimeter of
the grid. - Assign players who begin at the perimeter of the
grid but may enter when the receive a pass. - Allow a team to shoot on one or more goals after
they complete X number of passes. - Count passes. The team with the most consecutive
passes wins the competition. - Count passes. Give more weight (extra points)
for long passes (split grids or multiple zones).
- Place restrictions on teams such as weak foot
kicking only, receive the ball with outside of
foot only, execute a dribbling move before
passing, shield for 5 seconds before passing,
fake kick before passing, wall pass for points,
defend your partner only, cannot pass to the
player who passed to you, etc. - Spike Ball variation See slide 12.
- Insert a center zone (offensive players only).
- Insert multiple small grids to pass into for
points. - Mandate that the player who loses the ball sit
down on the field until their team regains
possession or for a time limit. - For dribbling practice a minimum of 4 touches
before passing the ball.

7 3 vs. 1 Keep Away Using Weak Foot and
Shielding In a 10 x 10 grid 3 players play keep
away from a fourth player. The passing players
may only use their week foot to receive and pass
the ball. Variation Add that the receiving
player must shield the ball for a
five seconds before passing the ball.

players with pinnies and 1 ball. The 9 players
play normal soccer. The 3 players play with their
hands can pass the ball by throwing it. The 3
players try to throw their ball and hit the 9
players ball. Progression 9 players play
unlimited touches, 3 touch, 2 touch, 1 touch. The
3 players get rid of their ball and play normal
defense. Allow the players to attempt to figure
out good tactics at the beginning. Coaching
points positive 1st touch, vision,
communication, look to switch fields to relieve
pressure.
