Title: STEVENSON HIGH SCHOOL

1
STEVENSON HIGH SCHOOL PATRIOTS HOCKEY SKATING
FOR A CURE Stevenson High School
encourages its student body to become socially
responsible, to get involved in community affairs
and to commit to helping others.  With that goal
in mind, and under the guidance of Varsity Hockey
Head Coach Jim Wood, the Stevenson Hockey program
has started a tradition of dedicating each season
for a charitable purpose.  This year the Patriots
have chosen the Juvenile Diabetes Research
Foundation (JDRF) to be the beneficiary of team
fundraising activities.   The Patriots want to
do their part to find a cure for diabetes by
creating an awareness of diabetes and the need
for funding of JDRF'S research and
research-related education.  The team's goal
is to raise in excess of 10,000 for the JDRF.
Last season, the team, through a variety of
activities, raised over 5,000 for the
Christopher Steel Foundation in support of brain
tumor research.  Chris, a former Patriot hockey
player died in 2006, at the age of 23, from an
inoperable brain tumor. On October 20, 2007, at
the Buffalo Grove Twin Rinks, the
season's activities will be kicked off at the
Patriot's Varsity home Metro North League opener
vs. Glenbrook South, at 630PM.  The JV team
plays at 810PM.  Steve Olken, radio personality
of AM 670 The Score Radio, who's two grade school
sons have diabetes, will be on hand to kick-off
the Patriot's season and drop the "ceremonial
first puck".  The Patriots will wear the above
patch on their jersey sleeves this year. The
team slogan this season to remember this great
cause will be will be SKATING FOR A CURE.
