1
Toxic Substances Control Act of 1976
2
What is the TSCA?
  • The Toxic Substances Control Act was introduced
in 1976 in order to regulate new and existing
    chemical products.

3
What the TSCA does.
  • The Toxic Substances Control Act includes a list
of existing chemicals, which are chemicals that
have been approved by the TSCA. If a chemical is
not listed, its referred to as a new
chemical, and must go through a long process to
    get onto the list.

4
Polychlorinated Biphenyl (PBC) products
  • The TSCA specifically regulates PCB products,
which are known to cause certain skin conditions
in people, and cancer in animals. The elemental
makeup of this compound consists of two rings of
Carbon bonds with varying amounts of Chlorine
    mixed in.
  • Commonly used in (or was, before PCB products
    were regulated) hydraulic fluids, adhesives,
fluorescent light bulbs, pigments, casting waxes
