The aim of the Chief Heritage is to

• Establish new arts and heritage institutions and
  recast existing monuments and histories
• Promote and establish conversation bodies by
  proclaiming new heritage institutions that
  redress neglected histories
• Promoting heritage preservation in South Africa
  by providing support and funding to organisations
  that preserve and promote heritage.
• Management and oversight of the South African
  Geographical Names Council and development of an
  authoritative database of geographical names
