11Over the weekend, Halverson had put together 3/16
of a jigsaw puzzle, while Jaime put together 5/8
of the puzzle. Who had completed a greater
fraction of the jigsaw puzzle, and by how much?
Which person worked more of the puzzle? How much
more?
Halverson 3/16 Jaime 5/8 greater
First, I compared 3/16 and 5/8 by finding a
common denominator and found that 5/8 (10/16) was
the greater amount. Then, I subtracted 3/16 from
10/16 to find the difference.
Jaime worked more of the puzzle than Halverson.
Jaime worked 7/16 more of the puzzle.
Jaime Halverson
