Origins of GSE
  • Began in 1950 when Rotary clubs of Yorkshire
    England sent 6 local men to Auckland, NZ
  • 1955, New Zealanders reciprocated the exchange to
    Yorkshire
  • 1955, The Auckland club suggested a Rotary
    Jubilee Project which led to formation of Rotary
    Overseas Travel Awards, ROTA
  • Exchanges in following years with USA, India,
    Japan, Malaysia and Thailand
  • 1959 1960, John Thomas of Auckland, NZ was RI
    president promoted ROTA to RI Directors and TRF
  • 1964 ROTA was assumed by TRF and became GSE,
    First exchange in 1965.

Last Traditional GSE will be in 2012 - 2013
  • To be replaced with
  • VOCATIONAL TRAINING TEAMS
  • Teams will travel to other districts to give
    technical assistance or to receive technical
    training.

Objectives of GSE
  • Vocational Cultural Experience
  • Promote World Peace Understanding, One
    Friendship at a Time
  • Opportunity to serve as Ambassadors from D7570,
    their communities and employers. As well as share
    their experience with their clubs and local
    communities.
  • Opportunity to discover Humanitarian Grant
    Projects

GSE Satisfies Gold Club Requirements
  • Mandatory Have an Ambassadorial Cultural or
    World Peace Fellow GSE Team member or Youth
    Exchange student as a speaker at your club
  • Electives
  • Host a GSE team
  • Nominate a GSE team leader or member

Assistant GovernorsWork with your Area GSE
Representative to RECRUIT
  • 4-5 Non-Rotarians between 25-40 years of age,
    with 2 years of work experience. Must not be
    related to any Rotarian
  • One Rotarian as Team Leader
  • Recruit from local businesses, churches, local
    organizations, non-profits, government agencies,
    schools

  • Locate host clubs (can be more than one)
  • Create interesting VOCATIONAL SIGHTSEEING
