Title: Warm up 10/21 Turgor Pressure

1
Warm up 10/21Turgor Pressure
  • WYW Explain how forces and motions affect an
organisms response to internal and external
    stimuli to environment.
  • L.C. Our bodies require force and motion to
facilitate involuntary and voluntary response to
sustain homeostasis and perform life functions.

Think-Pair-Share
  1. What is force and motion and what role does it
    play in everyday life?
  2. How does pressure affect an organism?
  3. What can you infer about a plants turgor
    pressure?
  4. What is tropism and how does environmental
    stimuli affect its function?
  5. How does force and motion, turgor pressure and
    stimuli all relate?

Forces in PlantsC-Notes

5
What differences do you notice in these two
plants?
This is caused by changes in turgor pressure.
6
What is turgor pressure?
  • Outward force in a plant cell when the vacuoles
fill up with water, causing the cell membrane to
    push against the cell wall.

This plant has HIGH turgor pressure.
7
Why is turgor pressure important in plants?
  • Gives them the rigidness to stand straight and
    continue normal cellular functions
  • Without normal turgor pressure, plants begin to
    wilt

This plant has LOW turgor pressure.
8
What does it mean to wilt?
  • To wilt means to droop, become shriveled in size
and shape, and to lose strength
  • Wilting does not mean the plant has died

9
What is emergence of seedlings?
  • An outward force that seedling plants put on
their surroundings in order to emerge, or rise up
