• 1965 Can. signs Auto Pact with USA
• allows American auto companies to build plants
  in Canada and sell cars duty-free in both
  countries
• for every car that American companies sold in
  Canada, they had to build a car in Canada
• 60 of the parts and labour on cars built in
  Canada had to be Canadian

  1973 by Trudeau to ensure that foreign
  investment in Canadian companies would benefit
  Canadians

  branch plants must obey this law as well
