Projects
  • Developing medical devices, active implantable
    devices and in vitro diagnostic devices (defined
    by EU Directive 2007/47/EC, 90/385/EEC, 98/79/EC)
  • Projects which are utilising and developing
    techniques or technologies from a different
    industry sector, which could have a potential
    impact if applied in a healthcare setting.

  • Funding award determined by the scale and nature
    of research
  • Awards 1-3 years

Eligibility
  • Lead applicants must be based in England and
    Wales
  • Key contributors to the project must be
    represented as co-applicants
  • Funding can be awarded to NHS organisation, HEI
    or industry
  • SMEs are welcome

Project entry and exit points
  • Entry
  • Applications must be informed by evidence
    obtained through prior basic research
  • Exit
  • Proposed projects are expected to fall along the
    development pathway up to a point where an
    advanced prototype medical device or technology
    has been tested within the laboratory
  • Clinical testing is also permissible until
    product is ready for formal clinical efficacy and
    utility trials
