• Seawater is at least 80 degrees Fahrenheit
• Air must be warm and humid
• Weak upper winds in same direction of storm

• Tropical- generated in tropical areas of ocean
• Cyclonic- winds circle an eye
• Low pressure system- eye has low pressure
• Wind speed- wind gt 74 mph

96-110mph category 3 111-130mph category 4
131-155mph category 5 greater than 155 mph
